Police Recruit Shot In Head During Training Exercise Files Lawsuit
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A police trainee who was shot in the head during a training accident in Maryland earlier this year has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit.
Raymond Gray, a trainee for the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus police, was shot in February at a firearms training center on the grounds of the former Rosewood Center. City police were administering the training at the center, a now-shuttered state hospital for the mentally disabled in the Baltimore suburb of Owings Mills.
The lawsuit, reportedly filed Friday in Baltimore City Circuit Court, argues the city was negligent by not ensuring safe procedures.
Gray lost an eye as a result of the shooting. The officer who allegedly shot him, William S. Kern, has been charged criminally.
