Police: Pasadena Teen Punched & Kicked Officers, Dragged Detective With Car
PASADENA, Md. (WJZ)— A Pasadena teen is accused of resisting arrest by punching and kicking officers and dragging a detective with his car.
Police say the incident all started just after 10:30 p.m. Monday at the Brady Recreation Area in Elizabeth Landing. The narcotics team spotted marijuana in plain view in a vehicle and ordered the occupants out of the vehicle.
That's when they say the driver, 18-year-old Brian Russell Hafer of Pasadena, refused to comply and a detective reached in the vehicle to unlock the driver's door. Hafer then began to drive away with the detective's arm trapped inside— dragging the detective for approximately 60 feet before the detective fell from the moving vehicle to the roadway.
Other detectives on scene followed the vehicle to Duvall Highway, where it abruptly stopped.
The passenger, 18-year-old Kevin Patrick Schofield of Pasadena, was taken into custody without incident.
Meanwhile, police say Hafer again refused to exit the vehicle and became combative with the officers, punching and kicking them.
He was eventually subdued with a Taser and taken into custody.
Both the detective and Hafer were transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where they were treated for injuries and released.
A small quantity of marijuana and related paraphernalia were discovered in the vehicle.
Hafer is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, obstruct and hindering a police investigation, destruction of property, possession of CDS marijuana, possession of CDS paraphernalia and related traffic charges.
Schofield is charged with CDS paraphernalia.
