'He Came To Kill Us': Odenton Axe Attack Victims Recount Fighting For Their Lives

ODENTON, Md. (WJZ) -- A 33-year-old man allegedly attacked a couple with an axe in Odenton late Thursday, Anne Arundel County Police said.

The attack happened around 11:50 p.m. in the 1300 block of Huntover Drive. According to police, a 33-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman with an axe.

The victims, Robert Coleman and Sheryl Lane-Coleman, said they were sleeping in a tent when their daughter's boyfriend attacked them.

"There's not a doubt in my mind he came to kill us," Lane-Coleman said.

The couple said the attack lasted for 15 minutes with the suspect hitting both of them before Coleman and their 17-year-old grandson turned it on him.

"I jumped up and grabbed the axe and I wouldn't let go," Coleman said.

All three were taken to area hospitals with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

During the attack, the couple said the suspect was yelling at them not to testify against that daughter who they say was arrested last month.

Police have not released the suspect's identity.

"You don't hear too many stories involving an axe," Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson Marc Limansky said. "Thankfully nobody was seriously injured."

Police will charge the man once he's released from the hospital.
