Police Investigate Double Shooting Near Brooklyn Park Library
BROOKLYN PARK, Md. (WJZ) -- Anne Arundel County Police are looking for two suspects after two people are shot near the Brooklyn Park Library.
Alex DeMetrick has more on the violence.
Police have cleared the scene, but the hunt has just begun for the two suspects.
Sky Eye Chopper 13 was over a small, public park shortly after the shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. The park is behind a library and Park Elementary School.
"I heard five shots. Because I live directly behind the school," one man said.
The school locked down immediately as police moved into the area. Two men from the Brooklyn Park area, ages 22 and 24, were found shot.
Investigators say the victims were sitting on a bench when two suspects approached them and began shooting at them.
"I'm really freaked out. I'm obviously anxious, nervous. It's too close to home," said Tracy Mandy, parent.
Both victims are being treated at Shock Trauma for non-life threatening injuries and are listed in stable condition. Police secured the crime scene and bagged evidence. Meanwhile, parents waited.
"They're inside locked down and the police have all been in and checked and made sure there's no one inside to harm them," said Kathy Terry, parent.
While the violence rattled this section of Anne Arundel County, police do not believe the shootings were random.
"What we know at this point is that there was probably some relationship between the suspects and the victims. This doesn't look like a random incident at all, it looks like they were targeted," said Lt. T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.
With the suspects out of the area, parents were free to bring their children home. Police are asking for the public's help in finding the suspects. All they know right now is a description:
"We have a very vague description of two black male suspects wearing maroon colored shorts. One was wearing a hoodie and one had on a black mask," Lt. Smith said. "Again, we believe that these victims are from the area, we believe the suspects are probably from the area. We're asking anybody with information, that might have seen anything, this was in broad daylight, to give us a call."
Because the school and the library are so heavily visited, police think there's a very good chance someone saw something that might help lead to the suspects.
The names of the two victims have not yet been released.
