Roommate: Baltimore Mom Rolled Over, Killed 5-Month-Old Girl In Drunken Mistake
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A 5-month-old girl is dead, and charges are looming. Police say she died of asphyxiation.
Rochelle Ritchie spoke with residents of the home where the little girl lived.
While Baltimore City Police are not releasing too many details about this case, a woman we spoke with says alcohol may have been a factor.
On the second floor of a home in the 1600-block of N. Broadway, 5-month-old Ilzaryah Morrison stopped breathing.
"She was like 'My baby dead,' and I said 'What? Did you call 911?' and when she brought her downstairs, she was limp," said Nikki, mother's roommate.
Very little details are being released about the baby's death, but Baltimore Police say they were called to the home for an unresponsive child.
Little Ilzaryah died at the hospital. Her death has been ruled homicide by asphyxiation.
The roommate says the mother told her she had been drinking.
"That's what she said. She accidentally rolled over on the baby. She was drunk, and she rolled over on the baby," Nikki said.
Nikki says the daughter and her mother lived in the upstairs bedroom. The little girl slept in the same bed as her mom.
Neighbors with children of their own are still in disbelief.
"Babies need to be in a crib or in a bassinet," said Sharonda, neighbor. "He sleeps by himself in his little bed. He won't get in mine. I just can't do it. I don't want nothing to ever happen to my kids."
Homicide detectives are now working with the State's Attorney's Office in this case.
Police have not said what charges are being filed or who they plan to charge.
