Police In Search Of Suspect Whose Rifle Accidentally Killed 13-Year-Old
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—There's new information in the shocking case of a 13-year-old accidentally shot to death by two friends who then hid her body—possibly with the help of a police officer.
Mike Schuh reports police now believe they know whose rifle was used in the crime.
By issuing a warrant for an unrelated crime, police hope to get Martinez Armstrong into custody.
They say he owned the .22 caliber rifle used to accidentally kill 13-year-old Monae Turnage.
The two young teens, who were playing with the rifle when Turnage was shot, are now charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Hit once in the chest, her body was found in a backyard off an alley in Northeast Baltimore.
Four-year veteran police officer John Ward has been suspended in connection with what happened. Police want to know if he helped in the cover-up after the rifle was found in his personal car.
But police say it isn't the officer's rifle, it's Armstrong's.
Armstrong is the half brother of one of the teens who has been charged. The suspended officer is the fiancé of one of their relatives.
Tattoos will probably lead police to Armstrong. Hard to miss is the one in the middle of his forehead and the one on his neck that reads "kill or be killed."
Other than to confirm the facts, police are not interested in elaborating on Armstrong's case or the search to find him.
If you've seen Armstrong, police ask you contact them.
