Baltimore Police Discuss Weekend's Rash Of Violence

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- City police are speaking to WJZ after a brutal weekend of shootings and stabbings.  Four people died and those cases are all unsolved.

Mike Hellgren updates the investigations.

Police are still searching for several killers.  All of these violent incidents appear unrelated but they have shaken many across the city.

Baltimore City Police capped off one of the bloodiest weekends in months with five people shot and four people murdered, including one person stabbed at Charles and Fayette.

"Mayor Rawlings-Blake and the police department have to really, really, really, really make this their number one issue because we can't have this in our city," said Derrick Vaughan.

Investigators also found Patsy Person beaten to death in her home, just two blocks from Patterson Park.

"You hear about stuff like this happening but you never think it could happen to you," said her sister, Daffine Perry.

"We're left with a feeling of frustration," said Detective Kevin Brown, Baltimore City Police.

At a briefing Monday morning, police say they're not changing strategy and point out there were 109 murders this year and 108 at this time last year.  They say they've also made an arrest in the murder of Joe Calo, stabbed during the city's July 4 celebration.

"We got numerous tips as to who the identity was," said Detective Jeremy Silbert, Baltimore City Police.

Police have made no arrests in the shooting of a 4-year-old.  They're reviewing crime cameras for clues.

"We're being very cautious to begin with and not really going out at night and sticking together," said one tourist.

That incident at Charles and Fayette Streets may have been caught on a Citiwatch camera. They're reviewing that as well.

There's also an update from Joe Calo's family.  They say they are on their way to his native Alabama for the funeral.
