Police Chase Speeding Trucker In W.Va., Md., Pa.
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) --Washington County authorities say a tractor-trailer driver is in custody after leading police on a chase up Interstate 81 through parts of West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Washington County 911 Supervisor Wayne Bockstanz says the truck with Mississippi plates struck several civilian and police vehicles along the 12-mile Maryland stretch near Hagerstown on Monday morning. No injuries were reported in Maryland.
Bockstanz says one collision shredded the truck's front tires and caused it to slow to about 35 mph near the Pennsylvania state line.
He says the driver lost control of the truck at Exit 5 near Greencastle, Pa., and drove into the median strip where he was taken into custody shortly after 9 a.m.
Thomas L. McNeel, 42, of Pontotoc, Miss., has been charged in Maryland with assault, fleeing and eluding police and other offenses.
