Police Charge Del. Man With Killing Church Worker
WHALEYVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police are charging a Delaware man with murder in the death of a church worker whose body was found in an embankment in Worcester County three weeks ago.
Police announced late Friday that Matthew Burton, 28, of Dagsboro, Del., is being charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of Nicole Bennett.
Police say Bennett's husband reported her missing to Delaware State Police on June 15 when she hadn't returned home after working late at a church in Gumboro, Del. Police say Bennett, 35, had been alone in the church with the custodian, who turned out to be Burton.
Police say investigators found DNA evidence that connected Burton to the crime. The motive for the murder remains unclear.
Burton was arrested Friday night near Rehoboth Beach, Del.
