Bicyclist Bruce Marshall Struck, Killed Near Gunpowder Falls State Park In Baltimore County
PHOENIX, Md (WJZ) -- A 77-year-old man was killed Tuesday after his bicycle and car collided on the NCR Trail.
Baltimore County Police are investigating how the crash happened.
Several bicyclists on the trail Tuesday they generally avoid going on Paper Mill Road, because it's too dangerous.
Bruce Marshall was riding his bike south on the trail around 3 p.m., entered the crosswalk and collided with a Dodge Dart on the westbound lane of Paper Mill Road. He died later at a hospital.
The driver of the car remained on the scene and so far, no charges have been filed, police said.
"It's a tragedy," cyclist John Vaughan said. "Shouldn't have happened."
Vaughan said he usually avoids riding near Paper Mill Road because the road is busy and there is limited shoulder space.
"Very dangerous to ride your bike along that road I would never do it," he said.
Others said they haven't heard of accidents on the road and advised being careful.
"I've been riding this trail for about 15 or 20 years and I have never heard of an accident on that road," said cyclist Juanita Ashaby-Bey.
Ashaby-Bey says she always tries to be cautious when approaching any of the roads that intersect with the trial.
"You got to be really careful with coming up to the road and just making sure you're slowing down, watching for traffic," she said.
Police say the crash is a reminder that bicyclists and drivers need to be careful around each other.
"Make sure you share the road: there are bicycle lanes and if you do see a bicyclist to be cognizant of them in your blind spot," said Officer Danielle Moore, a police spokeswoman.
