Caught On Tape: Police Apprehend Suspects Accused Of Stealing Car
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A suspected stolen car flew through the streets of Baltimore, weaving in and out of traffic as the driver and passenger tried to get away from police. The whole thing unfolded live on WJZ Tuesday.
Andrea Fujii explains it all started hours earlier.
A stolen car created a dangerous mess around the city as the driver tried to elude police during rush hour. Sky Eye Chopper 13 followed the silver car, and so did the Baltimore City police helicopter.
"What he's trying to do is outrun the police helicopter, which so far is not working out very well," said Captain Mike Perry, WJZ's chopper pilot. "He's now going on Gwynns Falls and he's going the wrong way!"
There were close calls with other vehicles. Police say the driver hit many cars during a chase from Baltimore City to the county and back to western Baltimore.
A state health department employee who works near Reisterstown Plaza was carjacked Tuesday morning. Police say it was her stolen car that was later spotted in Baltimore County.
It ended on North Avenue after the car zoomed past three cop cruisers and nearly hit two people. Eventually, one person ran away from the car while it continued to roll, slamming into a police car. Officers ran after one suspect and a few minutes later, a second suspect was in custody.
It was the police helicopter that spotted the stolen car in Baltimore County and it never lost track of the silver car so that cruisers on the ground could round-up the suspects. No one was injured.
The driver has been identified as Frank Richardson. Richardson and the passenger have refused to speak to detectives.
