Three Players To Watch In Ravens Matchup Against Panthers
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Preseason football is upon us football fans. And with its arrival, a slew of excitement and lofty expectations emerges. The Ravens are looking to bounce back from an uncharacteristic 5-11 campaign that saw numerous big-time players go down with season-ending injuries. Here's a look at a few players to watch as preseason football gets underway:
Terrance West, Running Back
With a crowded depth chart at running back, not many expected this name to emerge as a summer favorite. But Terrance West has seemingly come out of nowhere and impressed both the media and coaches at the castle. His burst at the line of scrimmage accompanied by an elusive running style has put the rest of the running backs on notice that he's gunning for the starting gig.
The job is Justin Forsett's to lose right now. But if West builds on his practice performance with spectacular runs in preseason games, it'll be hard to keep the former Towson product off of the football field when the games count.
Tavon Young, Cornerback
The Ravens desperately needed a cornerback to step up and impress following last year's abysmal showing by their secondary. Baltimore clearly liked what they saw when they drafted Tavon Young out of Temple in April, but even they have to be surprised by what they've seen from him. His play on the field reminds many of what Lardarius Webb was able to accomplish when the Ravens drafted him in the third round. His presence at the nickle spot has made him a favorite to land the third corner spot. But he'll need to prove himself against opposing offenses before the job is handed to him.
Kamalei Correa, Linebacker
Correa was drafted in the second round in order to give Baltimore an immediate upgrade at pass rusher. With his limited experience, the Ravens would likely start him off as a passing down linebacker before slowly transforming him into an every down linebacker. Kamalei Correa had other plans as his play on the practice field has become to impressive to ignore. The Ravens have already began placing him on both the inside and outside linebacker spots to get a gauge of where to best utilize him.
He's currently slated as a second-team linebacker, but a great showing during the preseason will force Baltimore to make him a bonafide starter. The future is now for Kamalei Correa.
