Police Arrest Suspect In Shooting Death Of 1-Year-Old Boy
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A devastating shooting in southeast Baltimore ends with a one-year-old dead. It happened just before 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on the unfolding investigation.
Baltimore City Police say they do have one person in custody, and believe more arrests could come.
A man is now under arrest for the shooting a one-year-old boy on Cherry Hill Road.
"This was not a random occurrence, this was not just something that took place," said Commissioner Anthony Batts, Baltimore City Police.
Baltimore City Police believe the boy's father, who was also in the vehicle and shot several times, was the intended target.
The window of the red Monte Carlo was shattered by bullets.
Just after 7 p.m., police say the father and son were pulling out of the Cherry Dale apartment complex when they were shot multiple times. The child died, the father remains in critical condition.
"This level of violence in this community, whether it's Cherry Hill or any other place in the city of Baltimore, has to end," Batts said.
Officers were able to chase down a suspect who is now under arrest.
The community is still shaken by the innocence lost.
"It could of been us. I don't know, just got to pray," a man said.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, reacting to the tragic death of the little boy, releasing this statement:
"Her thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this senseless and cowardly act of violence."
Police Commissioner Anthony Batts says the shooting will be investigated to the fullest, and anyone involved will face justice.
"We have a pretty good grasp on what occurred out here last night," he said.
And the police commissioner says the person in custody has been charged. Neither the names of the victims' nor the suspect's have been released.
No word on why the boy's father was targeted.
