Pennsylvania Native New Chief Of Naval Operations

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania native and U.S. Naval Academy graduate is the Navy's new chief of naval operations.

Adm. Jonathan Greenert, a native of Butler, Pa. and a 1975 academy graduate, was installed Friday as the 30th chief of naval operations. Greenert is now the principal naval adviser to President Barack Obama and the secretary of the Navy and a member of the joint chiefs of staff.

Greenert replaces Adm. Gary Roughead, who graduated from the Naval Academy in 1973 and has also served as commandant of the academy.

Greenert has previously served as a submarine commander and most recently as vice chief of naval operations.
