Pedestrian Fatally Struck While Crossing Ft. Smallwood Road In Pasadena
PASADENA, Md. (WJZ)— A pedestrian is killed while trying to cross Route 173 on Thursday morning. Anne Arundel County Police are investigating.
Mike Schuh reports the woman was on her way to work.
Two friends from Northeast Baltimore were excited to start new jobs Thursday morning at the Under Armour outlet just south of the city line.
Just before 7 a.m., after multiple bus transfers, the two best friends missed getting off at the bus stop closest to the factory.
Kiatia Moore tells CBS Baltimore that they asked the driver to stop at the next cross street.
After they got off at Pittman Road and Ft. Smallwood Road, Moore says they went to cross the six-lane highway, but "the woman came out of nowhere," striking her 31-year-old friend, sending her flying.
Moore stayed with her gravely injured friend until paramedics arrived to take her to the nearby Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
Back at the scene--one without pedestrian crosswalks or sidewalks-the victim's belongings, including her shoes, littered the southbound lane of Ft. Smallwood Road.
Moore, unaware her friend had passed, wondered aloud if she would be OK.
As the Anne Arundel County Police Accident Investigation team was wrapping up its work, friends of Moore arrived to take her home. It was then that she learned her best friend had died. Her guttural, anguished screams caused everyone nearby, police included, to stop what they were doing.
As her friend led her away, Moore was unable to support herself, the reality of what happened sinking in.
The accident happened at 6:50 a.m., a half hour before sunrise.
Police say more details concerning their investigation will be released later in the day. The driver of the vehicle stopped and is cooperating with police.
