Pastry Chef Of Food Network's 'Cupcake Wars' Fame To Open Bakery In Towson
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)-- A local pastry chef who made it big by winning the 'Cupcake Wars' on the Food Network is coming back to Maryland to open his first bakery. And WJZ stopped by to take a peak before it opens.
Mary Bubala has more.
"Anything you are going to get from us is going to be handmade. there are no machine pumping out cupcakes," pastry chef Jason Hisley said.
At La Cakerie, Hisley is showing off what will soon be available at his new artisan bakery in the heart of Towson.
"One of the things that is great about cupcakes is that you can customize them anyway you want, with fun decorations and sprinkles if it's a little girl's birthday or something like that," he said.
Hisley's career was launched on the Food Network when he came in first place on Cupcake Wars, and now he and his creations are in demand.
"I go out in Bel Air sometimes with my mohawk up and people recognize me and it's like, 'What!' It's crazy to me," he said of his new-found fame.
La Cakerie isn't open yet but that's not stopping customers from taking a peek.
"Very excited! The cakes look so good! And when I get married, I want them to make my cake," Hisley's customer said.
Hisley's new bakery will make custom cakes, breads, even pretzels and coffee-- anything the customer can think of.
"The flavors you are going to be experiencing here are different from anywhere else," he said. "And on top of that, we are going to do a lot of things on site like hand-dipping things in chocolate and giving it right to a customer."
The grand opening of La Cakerie is Saturday, November 3. The new store is located on West Chesapeake Avenue in Towson.
