Panel Decides On 12 Redistricting Hearings
ANNAPOLIS (AP) -- A spokeswoman for Gov. Martin O'Malley says a panel on legislative redistricting has decided to hold 12 public hearings across Maryland.
Raquel Guillory said Friday the Governor's Redistricting Advisory Committee plans to release a hearing schedule on its website next week.
In past years of redistricting, there have been 12 hearings. Some members of the panel this time proposed holding eight or nine instead, because of time constraints in forming a draft plan on congressional redistricting by September.
Lawmakers will convene in a special session in October to redraw the boundaries of the state's eight congressional districts, based in the results of the 2010 census. Redistricting for state legislative districts in the General Assembly will be taken up in January during the regular 90-day sessio
