Painting The Town Purple: Ravens Postseason Tradition Continues For 5th Straight Year
BALTIMORE (WJZ)--While the Ravens gear up for their first round playoff game this Sunday, Baltimore is preparing too.
Christie Ileto has more on how the Ravens are painting the town purple.
Baltimore is bleeding purple. Ravens ground crews are painting the town purple, literally!
You can now spot the face of the Ravens' mascot, Poe, on the lawns of City Hall and Fed Hill as Baltimore celebrates the Ravens' trip to the playoffs.
"These are airless paint sprayers," said Don Follett, director of field and grounds. "We're getting them all set up to paint on the bird right here in front of City Hall."
It takes five colors and 11 to 12 gallons of paint for each logo.
"Here we go!" said Follett.
And fans can't get enough.
"I love it!" said Joseph Mummurt. "I've been out here every year since they've been doing this, getting ready on the road to Super Bowl XLVII."
Fans even came out to Federal Hill to join in the festivities.
Mummurt was decked out as the ultimate super fan.
"Got the hat, the scarf, the hoodie, the gloves, the championship shirt, the pants," he said.
Just like the players, the fans are ready to take on the Indianapolis Colts.
"Go Ravens!" shouted Peyton and Brevin Petel.
"Beat them very, very hard and play hard," said fan Peyton Petel.
"We're going to win like 32 to 5," said Marty Setren said.
This is the Raven's fifth consecutive trip to the postseason. It's pretty exciting, but what makes this year so special?
"Unlike previous years, it seems that we're doubted more," said Mummurt. "We have a feeling this year, and we're going to march all the way to New Orleans and never look back."
A purple brick road to New Orleans that Ravens Nations says won't be hard to follow.
The last time the Ravens played the Colts in the playoffs it was 2006. The Colts won 15-6.
Along with the black and purple Ravens stencils, two special golden Ravens logos will appear somewhere in Maryland. Fans will have a chance to locate one of the two, and upload a picture of themselves with the Ravens logo to the Ravens website.
Someone will be selected to possibly win two tickets to the weekend's playoff game.
