PAC Working On Lawsuit To Md. Redistricting Map
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A political action committee based in Prince George's County is working with the Maryland Republican Party to challenge the state's redistricting map in federal court.
Radamase Cabrera, a spokesman for the Fannie Lou Hamer PAC, said Friday they are putting together a legal team to file a motion in U.S. federal court in Greenbelt.
Cabrera said he hopes the motion will be filed next Friday.
He also says the group intends to ask the U.S. Justice Department for an injunction based on alleged violations of the Voting Rights Act.
The political action committee and the state GOP allege the map dilutes the minority vote.
Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley signed the map into law on Thursday after the General Assembly approved it in a special session.
