Oyster Farming Permit Changes Take Effect In Md.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A new permit process aimed at making it easier to get approval for oyster farming has taken effect in Maryland.
The new process took effect Monday. Now, instead of seeking approval from three separate state agencies as well as federal officials, anyone seeking to establish an oyster farm can file a single application with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. They also still need approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, but that process has been simplified.
The new process is expected to take no more than four months as opposed to six months to a year at both state and federal levels.
