Oxon Hill Man Gets 30 Years For Role In Va. Killing
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A Maryland man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the shooting death of a Virginia handyman in 2010.
Reynard Prather, 22, of Oxon Hill pleaded guilty in federal court in Alexandria earlier this year to teaming up with two others to try to rob a Centreville man at his home because they expected him to be carrying large sums of cash.
When Prather and the other robbers arrived at the home, they ended up confronting a handyman who worked there -- Jose Cardona, a legal immigrant from Guatemala.
During a struggle, Cardona was shot and killed. Prather was not charged with firing the fatal shot.
The May 2010 slaying went unsolved for more than a year before Prather's arrest in November.
