Our "Fabulous You" Story Changed Viewer's Life
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Two months ago, we aired a story about a program called Fabulous You. It's a new approach to helping women with diabetes get their health under control.
Mary Bubala reports one of our viewers saw that story and changed her life.
In August, we interviewed India Harris about her success in the American Diabetes Association's new initiative called Fabulous You. She had lost 25 pounds with the program, which focuses on nutrition, fitness and health.
Thirty-six-year-old Terri Rice was at home watching.
"She was talking about her life having pre-diabetes and when I had seen it, her story was so similar as mine," Rice said.
She called the ADA of Maryland and the other of two was enrolled, learning to eat better, exercise and managing her diabetes.
Tuesday, we invited Rice---a mother of two---to WJZ to celebrate her success. She's lost 32 pounds and says before this, she never wanted to leave the house.
"I didn't want people to see me, you know. I would go out to take care of my business, but it was like out and back in," Rice said. "I am feeling fabulous thanks to the program Fabulous You."
Tuesday, Rice got to thank the woman who took her call that day back in August at the American Diabetes Association.
Tracey Newsome and the staff have guided 15 women on this journey.
"I can say that each woman has lost weight and improved their A-1C. It is fabulous," she said.
On Thursday, Rice and the 14 other women will be part of a Fabulous You luncheon gala at the Horseshoe Casino.
Twelve million women in the US are affected by diabetes.
