O's Fans Rally Clear Into The Night Ahead Of ALCS Game 1
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The countdown is on. In less than 24 hours, the Orioles start their push to become American League champions and go on to the World Series.
On the eve of ALCS Game 1, fans can't think about anything else. They're ready to cheer their birds right past those Kansas City Royals.
Rick Ritter reports the fans have been rallying clear into the night.
In less than 24 hours, the rally towels will be out and Camden Yards will be rocking. Fans say they're going to have trouble sleeping knowing first pitch of the ALCS is just hours away.
It's the eve of game one, and O's fans are loose in the bullpen, anxiously awaiting first pitch of the ALCS.
"I feel like this has been a long time coming for the O's," said Sarah Kidd.
It's packed wall to wall in the Greene Turtle. Most fans are fired up; others are emotional.
"It means the world. You can't imagine," said Charlie Huber.
Huber gave his nine-year-old son the surprise of a lifetime--playoff tickets only a few are lucky enough to snag.
"It was very hard. You had to put down a deposit or you're paying some serious bucks," Mike Hiltner said.
Over at Hightopps in Timonium, it's standing room only.
"It's going to be an exciting weekend for us here and for the city in total," said Brendan Bell, Hightopps Backstage Grille.
They're ordering nearly double the amount of wings and serving up playoff specials all weekend long.
"We probably get 50 cases a week and we're probably up to 75 now," Bell said. "Food sales and alcohol sales have been through the roof. The O's have been helping out a lot."
Even though Friday is only Game 1 of the ALCS, O's fans say it's hard not to look ahead to the World Series.
"This is a miracle team and this is just what's going to happen. It's destiny for us to keep going," Kidd said.
Confidence is sky high.
"We see Kansas City and we're just kind of like we think can beat these guys," said Hiltner.
O's fans can't stop, won't stop.
"I want the Orioles to go all the way and win the championship," Jeremy Huber said.
The average price for Orioles ALCS tickets is $502. That's almost nine times as expensive as the average price for tickets.
