Orioles Spread Holiday Magic In A Day Of Fun With 80 Local Kids
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—The Orioles hit a home run for a group of Baltimore school children this holiday season.
Mary Bubala reports 80 kids celebrated the season at a special party with current and former players.
Students from Alexander Hamilton Elementary School rang in the holiday season at the 35th Annual Orioles Reach Holiday Party at Dave and Buster's, where the kids got to play for free.
"That's what it's all about. Generally, what everything revolves around is the kids. It's great to have them out here to see their smiles on their face," said Nick Markakis, Orioles outfielder.
Markakis, Steve Johnson, Steve Clevenger and former Orioles pitcher Dave Johnson spread a little Oriole magic-- signing autographs and playing games with the kids.
"We're just here to put a smile on their face, give 'em some gifts and have a lot of fun with them," Clevenger said.
Kindergarteners through fifth graders from Alexander Hamilton got invitations to the Orioles party because of their perfect attendance records at school.
It's not often you get lunch served up by your baseball idols.
Then it was time for Santa Claus to join in the fun, spreading his own holiday cheer.
Each child took home a gift from the Orioles, plus a new baseball glove donated by Markakis.
Each year the Orioles select a different school to participate in their holiday party.
