Orioles Select Three New Pitchers In 2016 MLB Draft
Baltimore (WJZ) -- With the 27th pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, the Baltimore Orioles selected RHP Cody Sedlock out of the University of Illinois.
Sedlock is known for his great arm and possessed the stats to back it up. He struck out 116 batters in 101 and 1/3 innings of work with an overall ERA of 2.34 in 15 starts this season.
Orioles Scouting Director Gary Rajsich released a statement soon after the selection. "He has a good fastball, good breaking pithes, good feel for a change, and good control."
Great attributes like that is one of the reasons why Sedlock earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Year honors at Illinois. Cody spent the majority of his time as a reliever before making the move to the team's rotation where he has excelled. Cody Sedlock joins Hunter Harvey, Kevin Gausman, and Dylan Bundy as first round pitchers selected by the Orioles.
The Orioles also selected LHP Keegan Akin at No. 54 overall from Western Michigan University and RHP Matthias Dietz at No. 69 overall from John A. Logan College (IL).
The Draft will continue Friday, June 10, on MLB.com with rounds 3-10, beginning at 1:00 p.m., and conclude on Saturday, June 11, with rounds 11-40 starting at 12:00 p.m.
