Orioles Reward Exceptional Baltimore City Elementary Students With Holiday Party
HANOVER, Md. (WJZ)—A little Orioles magic was in play for city school children. The team hosted its annual holiday party Tuesday.
Mary Bubala reports it was a festive mix of games, food and fun.
'Tis the season--the Orioles off season-- to spread some holiday cheer.
Dozens of students from Baltimore City spent the day at Dave and Buster's in the Arundel Mills Mall.
They got one-on-one time with players like Jake Arrieta.
"I had a great day because I get to meet the Orioles, and I get to play Dave and Buster games," said Devin Bradford, City Springs student.
Students from City Springs Elementary were chosen to go to the party based on attendance, good behavior and excellent school work.
"Our students have worked so hard over the past four weeks. Teachers have used this as an incentive to work real hard to earn this trip, and we are real proud of those who have. And we are having a good time, playing the games, mingling with Orioles players staff and a great way to ring in the holidays," said Andy Frank, City Springs teacher.
The games are free, the food served up by the players and the gifts delivered straight from Santa, AKA Dave Johnson.
Each student also went home with a copy of the book "The Polar Express" and a new baseball glove.
"Just have some fun with them, put some smiles on their faces, give them some gifts, let them enjoy the day," said Zac Britton, pitcher.
This year's event marks the 33rd year for the Orioles' holiday party. A different school is chosen every year.
