With High Hopes, Orioles Open Season At Home Against Detroit Tigers
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Thousands of fans poured out of Camden Yards with big smiles on their faces.
Jessica Kartalija reports everybody was pumped up about Monday's game, and fans hope they keep the momentum for the rest of the season.
It was a beautiful day for a little baseball.
"The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. The fans are great," said one fan.
It was Orioles magic at Camden Yards.
"Finally, it seems like we have all of the pieces. Showalter's brought some magic," said another fan.
"I think we have a chance for the pennant," said a pumped-up fan. "This new manager is exciting. He does squeeze plays, bunts, sending them to steal. It's fun. It's real fun."
At the Flag Court at Camden Yards every team in the league is placed in order of their standing. The last time the Orioles had a winning season was back in 1997, but now, they are in first place.
"First place already, so only the sky is the limit for us right now," said another fan.
"We have the number 1 football team on the side of my head, Baltimore Ravens. If the Orioles win the World Series, I'll put them on the other side," said a tattooed fan.
It doesn't get much better than this...just ask the fans in the stands.
"If it's anything like this game has been, we're going to stay on top of the American League," said an O's fan.
There is a lot of excitement this year. People actually lined up waiting outside the gate. There is high hope and high expectation, and if the O's keep playing like they did Monday, fans say it's going to be a great year.
