Orioles Hire Danny Haas As National Crosschecker
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Baltimore Orioles have hired an amateur scout for the Boston Red Sox as the club's national crosschecker.
Danny Haas, 35, spent the past 10 seasons with the Red Sox, and in 2010 was East Coast crosschecker. He played in their minor league through 2001.
The Orioles also changed the roles of a number of pro scouts within the organization, a spokeswoman said Friday.
The Baltimore Sun reported that six pro scouts have been offered jobs as amateur scouts.
Dan Duquette, executive vice president of baseball operations for the Orioles, said in a statement Friday that the club restructured its recruiting operations in hopes of identifying and adding major league players.
