Orioles Duquette On Gausman's Toss: 'It Clearly Wasn't The Right Thing To Do'
General Manager of the Baltimore Orioles Dan Duquette joined Vinny and Haynie to share his opinion on the current feud between the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox, the shifting of starting pitchers and J.J. Hardy's struggles.
Umpire Sam Holbrook decided to eject Kevin Gausman from the game last night and Duquette said, "it clearly wasn't the right thing to do. He wasn't trying to hit the player...we were just competing in the game."
The team will now have to reorganize the roster after having to switch around starting pitchers for the next few games.
Duquette also commented on the ejection of Adam Jones. "Adam was clearly walking back to the dugout, and umpires are advised to let the players walk away when he's walking away. I'm not sure what was the basis for Holbrook's judgement to throw Jones out of the game. Jones was clearly competing in the game."
As for the continuation of the feud in terms of "headhunting" players, Duquette said, "I'm really proud of the way our club plays baseball. Our organization does not encourage headhunting...Our guys don't do that. We don't think that's the right way to play baseball."
Vinny commented, "Yeah, I think you guys are getting screwed in this series big time, by MLB and the umpire."
