Orioles Beat Writer Rich Dubroff Is Talking Spring Training
CSN's Orioles beat writer Rich Dubroff joined Ed & Bob to talk about the upcoming season and Spring Training so far.
Bob asked about an update on Jair Jurrjens who was hit by a ball yesterday while pitching. Rich said Jair didn't seem to be too worried about the injury which was diagnosed as a rib contusion, and we should know more after x-rays today.
Ed asked about Wilson Betemit's knee injury and if he would need surgery. Rich said that thought the injury looked frightening when it happened he will not need surgery. It was not an ACL so Wilson is expected out for 6-8 weeks, and the Orioles may still look to fill the role Betemit was going to play.
Ed asked Rich if he thought maybe the Orioles made a mistake not getting a big bat to DH. Rich said the Orioles didn't want to get another guy like Vlad Guerrero a couple years ago who couldn't play in the field. Rich also said the role of DH may be opened up to a young prospect with the injury to Wilson Betemit.

Bob asked Rich where does Ryan Flaherty stand on this team. Rich said he believes Flaherty can play any position on the field and shows good pop from his bat. Rich said that Buck loves Flaherty and his only criticism is he is too aggressive at the plate and needs to see more pitches.
Ed asked Rich about what he has seen from Brian Roberts and if he thinks B Rob can play over 100 games this year. Rich said it would be very nice if Brian could and that Brian looks great this spring, but doesn't believe he can play over 100 games. Rich also added that with the depth of this team Brian doesn't necessarily have to.
Rich then added that rule 5 draft pick TJ McFarland is well liked by Buck and that Buck really hopes he can make the final roster.
