O'Malley To Announce Same-Sex Marriage Bill Plans
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A spokeswoman for Gov. Martin O'Malley says he will announce what role he will play in advocating same-sex marriage legislation in Maryland by the end of the week.
Raquel Guillory, the governor's spokeswoman, declined Tuesday to comment on whether O'Malley will introduce legislation.
Last week, at the National Governors Association meeting in Salt Lake City, O'Malley said he will be "very active in support" of legislation in the next regular session of the General Assembly that begins in January. He also said he has been looking at how New York approved legislation that included protections for religious freedom. He says that might improve efforts to get a bill through in Maryland.
Same-sex marriage legislation passed the Maryland Senate this year, but it stalled in the House of Delegates.
