O'Malley Raised Nearly $1.7M For PAC Last Year
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, who is considering a run for the White House in 2016, reported raising a total of nearly $1.7 million last year with his political action committee.
O'Malley, a Democrat, reported raising more money in the second half of the year in filings made public on Friday for his PAC, which is called O' Say Can You See. O'Malley raised $1.2 million in the second half of the year. The PAC reported having $742,000 cash on hand.
O'Malley has a federal account as well as a non-federal one for O' Say Can You See. He reported raising a total of $472,649 in the federal account and $719,627 in the non-federal account for the second half of the year.
In addition to money raised through O' Say Can You See, O'Malley also has raised money for the Democratic Governors Association and for various Democratic candidates.
The governor is frequently asked when he appears on national television news programs whether he will run for president, and he has been noncommittal. He avoided directly answering the question again on Friday during an appearance on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports," when he was asked whether he would run if Hillary Clinton declared her candidacy for the White House. O'Malley said he believes the Democratic Party needs to have a debate on where to go after President Obama's term ends to grow the middle class and that "I believe I have some ideas to offer as well."
O'Malley said the work that needs to be done right now is the work of ideas and policies that produce results.
"So, in all of that, it's ultimately, Andrea, the people's decision as to who leads us forward, not only as a party but most importantly as a country," O'Malley said. "So these are exciting times to be having these conversations, and I look forward to being a part of that."
