O'Malley Names New Information Technology Head
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Governor Martin O'Malley has named a new secretary of the Maryland Department of Information Technology.
The governor announced Thursday that Isabel FitzGerald will lead the department.
FitzGerald has been the deputy secretary for operations at the Maryland Department of Human Resources since 2012.
The information technology department buys and manages all telecommunications devices and systems used by state agencies.
FitzGerald is replacing Elliot Schlanger, who will lead the O'Malley administration's cybersecurity efforts as Maryland's director of cybersecurity. That's a new position that will look out for Maryland's cyber infrastructure.
Schlanger was named the first secretary of the Department of Information Technology in 2007.
