O'Malley: Consensus Needed Before Special Session
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley isn't setting a timeframe for holding a special session to try to undo $512 million in budget cuts.
O'Malley said Thursday that the timing will depend on when a consensus is reached on how to make up the money in the General Assembly. He said on the Fox5 Morning Show on WTTG that he's willing to call lawmakers back to Annapolis in a half hour if there is a consensus.
O'Malley also discussed some of the effects the unexpected budget cuts will have, such as a greater increase in college
tuition.
The $512 million in cuts are now in the budget for the next fiscal year that begins in July after the Legislature failed to
approve a budget package by Monday's adjournment.
