Officials Propose I-270 Shoulder Use In Md.
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Some Frederick County officials say commuters should be allowed to drive on the shoulders of Interstate 270 to ease rush-hour traffic jams.
The Frederick News-Post reported Thursday that Frederick city Alderwoman Carol Krimm and city transportation planner Tim Davis recent made the suggestion to the Frederick Area Committee for Transportation.
Davis says it would involve the northernmost 13 miles of the highway. He says Virginia's transportation department is building a similar traffic system on I-66 through Arlington, Fairfax and Prince William counties.
The Maryland State Highway Administration says the project would require more discussion and a feasibility study.
