Officials ID 2-Year-Old Boy Who Shot Himself
OXON HILL, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police say they have identified a 2-year-old boy who accidentally shot and killed himself in Oxon Hill.
Julie Parker, a police spokeswoman, says investigators believe the gun was unsecured and in an area where the boy, Davion Prince, could reach it. The boy shot himself Monday night in his family's apartment in the 6200-block of Oxon Hill Road. He was taken to a hospital in Washington, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say the boy's mother, who was in a separate room from her son, told officials she heard a gunshot and then found her son fatally injured.
Parker says detectives were working with the state attorney's office to determine whether criminal charges would be filed.
