Officer Who Shot Man In Stabbing Won't Be Charged
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Annapolis Police say an officer who fatally shot a man as he stabbed a woman to death won't be criminally charged in the incident.
Police say the department received a letter last month from the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office recommending against filing charges against Officer Alfred "Tony" Thomas. The Capital of Annapolis reports that the office said Thomas' actions were justified.
Thomas, a 14-year veteran, shot William Brown, 31, on Sept. 10 as Brown approached 29-year-old Ronnesha Simms, whom he had stabbed, and Thomas. Police said Thomas shot Brown, who even after he had been shot stabbed Simms one more time.
Simms and Brown died at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Police say Thomas, who was placed on routine administrative leave after the shooting, has returned to work.
