Officer Says He Still Has Nightmares From Shooting
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore police officer who claims he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after being involved in a fatal shooting in 2005 says he never got the help he needed.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Richard A. Willard filed a lawsuit this week against the city police department, and is
seeking an injunction in U.S. District Court to delay his termination hearing that is set for later this month.
Willard has been on medical leave since 2009, the same year he says in his lawsuit that the department didn't provide counseling when symptoms resurfaced and denied his request for early disability retirement.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi denies that the department doesn't offer help.
Willard's union attorney says his client faces administrative charges for alleged misconduct outside the job.
