Baltimore County Police Shoot Suspect Outside Baltimore Police Department Southwest Precinct
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore County Police detectives are investigating after an officer shot a suspect Wednesday afternoon who appeared to display a handgun, officials said.
The officer-involved shooting happened outside of the Baltimore Police Department's southwest precinct, but Baltimore County Police detectives fired the shots.
"It appeared as if that suspect was armed," Joy Lepola, of the Baltimore County Police Department, said.
Police said detectives were investigating a case and located the suspect in Baltimore City.
The suspect exited a vehicle and displayed what appeared to be a weapon at a bystander. Officer Flaherty then shot the suspect.
Police won't say, at this time, if a weapon was recovered from the scene.
The suspect was taken to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition.
"We have two different police agencies conducting investigations, and there is a lot of information, evidence that's being collected at this scene," Lepola said.
Will Feldman, a local resident, was outside talking to a friend when he heard it happen.
"Bam, bam, bam! The officers didn't have a choice," Feldman said.
He said he saw three Baltimore County Police detectives and heard at least five shots.
"You just don't see something like this every day, especially in a neighborhood that's as safe as this when you live next to a police station," Feldman said.
