Odenton Boy, 11, Not Seriously Injured When Struck By Car Near Summer School
ODENTON, Md. (WJZ)— An 11-year-old boy was struck by a car shortly after being dropped off to summer school Monday afternoon. He was not seriously injured.
It happened just after 12:30 p.m. at Odenton Road and Monterey Avenue in Odenton.
Investigation revealed that the child was in a summer school program and had been safely dropped off by a school bus on Odenton Road. The bus pulled away and the child began to walk east along the sidewalk. After walking about 50 yards, the child suddenly attempted to cross the street and was struck by a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by 49-year-old Thomas H. Hallon, who was also traveling east on Odenton Road.
The child was transported by ambulance to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with minor injuries. His parents were contacted and responded to the hospital. The principal of nearby Odenton Elementary School went to the hospital to stay with the child until his parents arrived.
The child was not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident, which has been determined to be pedestrian error. Speed and alcohol were not contributing factors.
