Ocean City Saves $1.1 Million On Boardwalk Project

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- The Ocean City Town Council has given an Easton company approval to perform the first phase of reconstruction work on the city's boardwalk.

The council voted unanimously Tuesday to award the bid to general contracting company RBCI, Inc. The company offered a bid of about $1.1 million to do the work that city staff had originally expected would cost about $2.2 million.

The savings brings the total cost of two-phase project to $6 million.

Under the first phase of the project, the boardwalk will be rebuilt between the inlet and Somerset Street, and 15th and 27th streets. The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that the project is scheduled to begin Oct. 3 and is expected to be finished by April 2012.
