Ocean City Prepares For Annual Tuna Tournament
OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- Fishermen are preparing to compete in Ocean City's annual tuna tournament.
Jen Blunt, OC Tuna Tournament director, told The Daily Times of Salisbury that the tournament that begins Friday is Ocean City's second-largest of the year behind the White Marlin Open. Blunt says it is the nation's largest tuna fishing tournament.
Anglers are competing for payouts that average about $500,000 each year. Organizers say participants can win in two main categories: largest single fish and total amount caught.
Competitors can only win in one category and are only allowed to fish two of the tournament's three days.
First, second and third prizes are given out in each category.
Organizers say at least 60 percent of entry fees are returned as prize money.
