Obama Gets Ryder Cup Invite From U.S. Captain Love

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) --  President Barack Obama has an invitation to the Ryder Cup, delivered in-person from the U.S. team captain.

Davis Love III said Thursday he encouraged the president to attend next year's U.S.-Europe showdown at Medinah Country Club, near Chicago, during a White House visit.

Love, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson made the short trip Wednesday from Congressional to the Oval Office, where they spent about 15-to-20 minutes with the president.

"We invited him to come to the Ryder Cup in his hometown," Love said. "Hopefully, he'll come."

Love said the three golfers also gave Obama some clubs and a bag for the president's upcoming round with House Speaker John Boehner on Saturday.
