NYC Mayor Releases Redacted Taxes, Details Gifting
NEW YORK (AP) -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg is again refusing to release his unedited income taxes. But the heavily redacted documents provided Friday by his administration do provide a peek into the lifestyle and giftmaking of one of the world's richest men.
The documents show the billionaire mayor forgave a loan of more than $500,000 to his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University, last year.
The dwellings of formerly homeless New Yorkers are apparently now furnished with about $44,000 worth of lacquered cabinets donated by the mayor.
Bloomberg provides reporters with a brief look at altered tax forms. Dollar amounts are replaced with letter codes to reflect general ranges.
Spokesman Stu Loeser argues that releasing more details could hurt the financial services company in which
Bloomberg holds a majority stake.
