N.Y. Man Sentenced To 3 Years In Co-Worker's Slaying
WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- A New York man has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for fatally stabbing a co-worker during a fight in the supermarket where they were part of the cleaning crew.
Zamani Lawson of Jamaica, N.Y., had pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the June death of Bergari Zardiashuili, 22, of Brooklyn, N.Y. The two had worked at Martin's supermarket in Eldersburg and had shared a room in the basement of their supervisor's home.
The Carroll County Times reports that Lawson apologized to Zardiashuili's family in court on Tuesday.
Lawson's defense attorney said Zardiashuili was the aggressor in the fight and had put Lawson in a martial arts hold.
Lawson, 27, had no previous criminal record.
