N.Y. Late In Filing Chesapeake Cleanup Plan
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Federal environmental officials say New York missed the deadline for filing its latest Chesapeake Bay restoration plan.
The Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday that it had received final plans from five of the six bay watershed states and the District of Columbia. New York has filed a draft and the EPA said it was working with the state. The plans are the second set submitted by the six bay watershed states and include how they will achieve pollution reductions on the local level.
Lisa King, a spokeswoman for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, said the department has asked for a 30-day extension from the EPA but did not give a reason for the delay. The other bay watershed states are Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Delaware.
