New York Avenue Rehab Work To Cause Delays -- For 2 Years
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A major construction project on New York Avenue could affect commuting times into and out of Washington for the next two years.
The D.C. Department of Transportation is beginning a long-term rehabilitation project on the New York Avenue bridge on Monday. The work will require the closure of one inbound lane and one outbound lane on the bridge between Florida Avenue and Penn Street in northeast.
The department says commuters can expect delays of 15 to 30 minutes during the project, which is expected to last about two years.
To make up for the inconvenience, the department is offering 2,000 commuters $50 a month toward the cost of another form of transportation. The program is being offered on a first come, first serve basis.
