NTSB: Poor Safeguards Caused Metro Accident
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal safety investigators say inadequate safeguards and poor communication contributed to a Metro transit accident that killed two workers two years ago.
The National Transportation Safety Board issued a report Friday on the Jan. 26, 2010 accident, which occurred when a hi-rail vehicle struck and killed two train control technicians who were doing repair work.
The report says there weren't proper safeguards in place to protect workers from hi-rail vehicles, which are trucks or cars that can operate on the highway or rail.
Metro general manager and CEO Richard Sarles said in a statement that it had already taken "necessary actions" to improve safety.
