NTSB Chairwoman Taking 'Big Rigs' To Truck Show
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board is headed for Louisville for the Mid-America Truck Show and is traveling alongside five different professional "big-rig" drivers.
The idea is for Deborah A.P. Hersman to get a close-up view of professional truck drivers' daily experience on U.S. highways.
Hersman, who holds a commercial driver's license, will honor America's professional women truck drivers at the second annual Women in Trucking even on Saturday at the truck show in Louisville.
She also plans to observe a Level 1 roadside inspection at a Maryland weigh station, visit a travel center in West Virginia, meet with West Virginia and Kentucky transportation officials and safety advocates and host listening sessions with safety officials and professional drivers.
