NRC, Dominion To Discuss Nuke Plant Quake Impact
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Federal regulators and Dominion Virginia Power are meeting in Maryland on Thursday to discuss the Aug. 23 earthquake's impact on one of the company's nuclear plants in Virginia.
The meeting will be held at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's headquarters in Rockville, Md.
The NRC says it expects Dominion officials to discuss the company's latest analysis of ground motion at the North Anna Power Station.
The plant about 11 miles from the 5.8-magnitude quake's epicenter was shut down within seconds of the tremor. Preliminary measurements suggested the quake triggered shaking in excess of what the two reactors' were designed to handle.
The NRC says both units operated as designed and the plant shut down safely.
A final report is expected by the middle of October.
